Sample Pre-Ride Speech

Hello, my name is Jane Buck and welcome to the North Shore Cyclists. Are all of you NSC members or have you signed the waiver this year? Please come up here and sign our insurance waiver. All our members sign a blanket release when they renew their membership, nonmembers must sign at least each year. Have any of you not participated in an arrowed ride? If so, see me before you leave if you are not sure how to follow the route.

Ride legally, pay attention to all road conditions, traffic and other riders. Signal to motorists and other riders. Be vocal call out conditions - Gravel, Sand, Runner up, Car Back, Dog, Horse, etc. Point out road hazards to riders behind you. Be courteous to motorists and let them get by. Pass other riders on the left only and call out when you do. Be conscious of blocking intersections when stopped. Don’t litter and watch your language going through towns and past crowds.

When in doubt follow the coastline. There is a new rest stop. The one that we have used for years has closed. A good place to stop is after the turn around in Maine right before a left off of 103 it is called Suds and More on the right. When leaving Portsmouth on Rte 1A down a hill there is a very dangerous metal bridge. WALK YOUR BIKES ON THIS BRIDGE!

Next week is John Doe’s ride from Georgetown Center. Thank you and have a great and safe ride.
